Mark Zuckerberg Impersonator, Others, Jailed For Internet Fraud In Ilorin

A 21 year-old internet fraudster has been jailed for impersonating Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, in order to defraud unsuspecting victims via online relationship.

The fraudster, Jatto Sheriff Umar, who was sentenced on Wednesday, 13 October, 2021, had been prosecuted by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alongside five others for offences bordering on impersonation and cybercrime.

TheFact Nigeria reports that Jatto and three of the other convicts, fake US military officer, Oguntoyinbo Oluwatobi Damilola; Taiwo Akinyemi Kayode and Adebayo Adeola Mark, were prosecuted before Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, by Innocent Mbachie representing the EFCC, while Justice Adenike Akinpelu of the same Court heard the cases of the two others, Adedoyin Olayinka and Yusuf Alameen Abiodun, who were prosecuted by R. A Alao for the anti-graft Commission.

Following the confessional statements and the guilty plea entered by the defendants, as well as the evidence tendered against them, which included the devices used in perpetrating the crime, the two counsels urged the Courts to convict and sentence them as charged.

Justice Abdulgafar, therefore sentenced Jatto (Zuckerberg impostor) to six months imprisonment each on count one and two, to run concurrently at Mandala Correctional Centre.

The sentences were however suspended, but the convict would be required to be reporting to officials of the Correctional Centre, while his iPhone 12 pro, laptop and Manager’s Cheque, which he raised as restitution to his victims are to be forfeited.

While Damilola, Mark and Taiwo also had their six-month jail sentences suspended, as well as the forfeiture of phone, a black Toyota Corolla Car and Dell laptop to the federal government, Justice Akinpelu on the other hand, sentenced Olayinka and Abiodun to six months imprisonment each, with option of a fine of N200,000 on each court of the charges against them, and ordered the forfeiture of a draft of N135,000 raised by Abiodun as restitution
to the victim of the crime, as well as iPhone XR used as instrumentality of the crime.
