Anambra Elections: IGP Orders Deployment Of 34,587 Police Personnel, Helicopters

Ahead of the November 6th gubernatorial elections in Anambra State, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the mobilization and deployment operational assets including 34,587 police personnel.

The Police Chief disclosed this on Thursday, 14 October, being day two of the Strategic Police Managers’ Conference for Senior Police Officers in the Force.

TheFact Nigeria recalls that IGP Baba, on the first day of the Conference, had assured the nation of the commitment of the Force to ensuring security and safety in the State during the elections, as well as seeing that the country’s democratic values are upheld.

Other operational assets deployed by the IGP include three (3) Police Helicopters for aerial surveillance, and technical capabilities of the Police Airwing, the Force Marine and the Force Animal Branch.

According to Baba, not only has the Force conducted an Election Security Threat Analysis as part of preparations for the elections, but it has also developed a Strategic Election Security Operational plan to stabilize the prevailing security situation in the State, aimed at creating a conducive and enabling environment that will guarantee the peaceful conduct of the elections.

 

He further disclosed that the over 34,000 personnel of the Force comprises of conventional police officers, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Forces personnel, Explosives Ordinance Unit (EOD), Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB), INTERPOL, Special Protection Unit (SPU) as well as Police Medical Teams, and will all be on ground to guarantee a hitch-free election.

Furthermore, in consideration of the approaching Yuletide season, the Police Boss has equally charged the Commissioners of Police in the thirty-six States of the Federation and the FCT, as well as their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police, AIGs, to return to their Commands and strengthen the security architecture therein.

He has also directed the Strategic Commanders to evolve proactive anti-crime approaches to enable the Force stay ahead against any anticipated security threats to the lives and property of the citizenry.
