JAMB Boss Named Icon Of Transparency, Accountability By Education Correspondents

The Education Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (ECAN) has conferred the Registrar Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede with the Icon of Transparency and Accountability award.

Presenting the award to the JAMB Registrar, the Chairman, ECAN, Mr Chuks Ukuwatu, said Prof. Oloyede was carefully selected following the report of an assessment committee.

TheFact Nigeria gathered that JAMB, under the leadership of Prof. Oloyede, had remitted about 50billion naira to the national treasury.

Ukuwatu stated that the award initiated 15 years ago was conceived to spur distinguished Nigerians who have performed exceptionally well in the
education sector to do more.

Consequently, he added that as the watchdog of the society, ECAN evaluates the performance of people vested with the position of responsibility in the sector and take stock of their performance with a view to showcasing their performance where they have distinguished themselves.

He said, “The award given to Prof.Oloyede is to appreciate the Registrar’s uncommon achievements with a view to tasking him to do more as the reward for hard work is more work.”

The ECAN leader said Prof. Oloyede has brought sanity to the admission process
through the introduction of the Central Admissions Processing System(CAPS); tackled examination malpractice headlong, demonstrated transparency through the weekly publication of income and expenditure in the weekly JAMBulletin and made unprecedented remittances to the nation’s coffers.

In his remarks, the JAMB Registrar thanked ECAN, stating that the objectives of the award would be attained as the Board was ever ready to carry out its mandate diligently as required by the Federal Government.

He advised the Association to continue to strive hard in its reportage to put Chief Executives on their toes and urged the body to see the gesture as their own contribution to national development.

Prof. Oloyede implored the education
writers to assist the Board in the crusade against illegal admissions, issuance and
usage of fake certificates, the dissemination of the Board’s planned introduction of two additional subjects – Physical and Health Education and Computer Studies – in the 2022 UTME.

He also intimated ECAN of its new cashless registration regime as well as other measures such as the restriction on CBT centres from selling e-PINs to ensure that the cashless policy benefits candidates.
