Covid-19: FG Takes Vaccination Crusade To IDP Camps

In a bid to achieve its goal of vaccinating at least 50million Nigerians by January 2022, the Federal Government has taken its covid-19 vaccination campaign to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across the country.

The flag off ceremony championed by National Commission for Refugees, Immigrants and Internally Displaced Persons in collaboration with National Primary health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 in Waru, Abuja.

TheFact Nigeria observed that the IDPs were more interested in the food distributed than in getting vaccinated.

Executive Director, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib stated that the special attention given to the IDPs in commencing mass vaccination in their camps underscored the government’s recognition of their vulnerable conditions and also showed its determination in ensuring everyone in the country had access to the Covid-19 vaccines.

Correspondingly, a total of 7,361,810 Nigerians have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 3,846,762 eligible Nigerians have received their second doses and are fully vaccinated against the virus.

The NPHCDA Boss further disclosed that the Federal Government will commence administration of booster doses using the Pfizer Bio-N-Tech as from Friday, December 10, 2021.

In her remarks, Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Mrs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim explained that the Persons of Concern have had their livelihoods eroded by both man-made and natural disasters leaving them more vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said majority of them lacked access to adequate health care system, hence the Commission’s collaboration with NPHCDA to ensure they got vaccinated.
