Education: Poor Management Of Funds, Major Constraint In Sector – Minister

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has fingered the poor management of funds as a major operational constraint in the sector.

Adamu disclosed this at the formal inauguration of the Governing Councils of new eight (8) Federal Polytechnics and six (6) Federal Colleges of Education on Tuesday, January 18, 2021 in Abuja.

TheFact Nigeria observed that Tertiary Instituions especially Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria lagged behind those of other countries.

The Education Boss stated that it was expected that the limited funds allocated to tertiary instituions by Government be judiciously utilised.

He said it was evident that government cannot provide all the funds required to run Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, Adamu therefore advised the different Councils to think out of the box and endeavour to generate more revenue, outside government allocations.

To this end, he urged them to enlist the support of philanthropic organisations, individuals and other sources of revenue through endowment for additional funding of their institutions.

On another note, the Education Boss, while congratulating the new Councils tasked them with the responsibility of reviving the comatose sector.

“The drive to revamp the quality output of higher education in Nigeria rest squarely on the shoulders of prominent citizens like you. We are confident that you will bring your wealth of experience, adherence to and respect for the rule of law and due process to bear in the discharge of your duties”, he said.

Also speaking at the inauguration, Minister Of State For Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba advised the new Councils to familiarise themselves with the specific Law establishing their institutions as well as relevant laws of the Federation so as to guide the institutions appropriately in the years ahead.
