2022 UTME/DE: JAMB Hits 70,000 Registrations Daily

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-Haq Oloyede

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has disclosed that the Board was recording over 70,000 daily registrations for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).

JAMB announced this in their weekly publication of the JAMBulletin on Monday, March 7, 2022.

TheFact Nigeria gathered that the number of daily registrations recorded by the Board was more than double of what it had projected, hence there was need for it to put measures in place forward for a seamless examination.

On his part, the JAMB Boss, while monitoring the ongoing 2022 UTME/DE registration exercise in Lagos State, stated that he was generally satisfied with the overall conduct of the exercise.

According to Prof. Oloyede, “The speed in capturing candidates this year is beyond the Board’s projections and this is just one of the many areas of improvement. He disclosed that the Board had, for instance, enhanced its infrastructure to capture at least 50,000 candidates per day but over 70,000 candidates were being registered daily.

Consequently, over 700,000 candidates have already been registered compared to about 200,000 candidates that were registered about the same period the previous year.

Speaking on the hitches experienced the previous week, the Registrar said the Board had been working round the clock in conjunction with its technical partners to expand its facilities to accommodate the high turnout of candidates this year.

On the challenges being experienced by candidates in creating profiles, the Registrar had adopted a practical approach by inviting candidates with such issues and were all, without exception, observed to have been culpable and their challenges self-inflicted.

This is because many of the candidates interviewed were either sending the wrong parameters to 55019 or had no sufficient balance on their phones to perform such operations.

He advised candidates to carefully follow the instructions as well as ensure that they have at least N50 balance before sending their NIN to 55019.

On the number of Computer Based Test (CBT) centres to be used for the 2022 UTME, the Registrar said he could not say for certain as some of them would be delisted for abusing their operational code and disclosed that about six centres had been delisted in the current week for infractions.

The Registrar was accompanied on the exercise by the Head, Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, and other key functionaries of the Board.
