IGP Decorates Two Newly Promoted DIGs

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali-Baba, has decorated Bala Zama Senchi and John Ogbonaya Amadi as Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, DIGs.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement, the decoration took place Monday, 30 May, 2022, at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House.

TheFact Nigeria learns that the promotions are consequent upon the recently released promotions by the Police Service Commission, PSC, in which the two officers’ recommendation by the IGP was approved by the commission.

It would be recalled that the PSC had on 16 May, 2022, confirmed the promotion of former Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mustafa Ibrahim Magu, as an Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, along with seven others.The other Commissioners of Police promoted to AIG are CP Abraham Egong Ayim; Okunlola Kola Kamaldeen; Andrew Amieengheme; Akeera Mohammed Younous; Celestine Amechi Elumelu; Ngozi Vivian Onadeko and Danladi Bitrus Lalas (Airwing).

Described as “a consummate police officer”, the Kebbi State-born cop holds a BA in History and has held many Command positions including the Commissioner of Police, Police Staff College, Jos, Jigawa Police Command, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Community Policing, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

DIG John Ogbonaya Amadi, who hails from Ebonyi State, is described as a versatile police officer, with a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Biology) and a Master’s Degree in Education both from the University of Lagos.

He attended several professional courses both in Nigeria, and abroad and is a member of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

He held many Command positions including; Commissioner of Police at the Railway Police Command, Western Ports Authority, Lagos, and Airport Command, Lagos; Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Maritime, Lagos. He is currently the DIG in charge of Research and Planning, as well as the coordinating DIG for the South East Geo-Political Zone.

Adejobi added that “The Inspector-General of Police has charged the senior officers and others who have just been promoted, on quality delivery of policing services to members of the public while ensuring full compliance with the police reform agenda of the President.

The Police Chief further charged the DIG Operations with improving ICT-based operational activities while the DIG Research and Planning was tasked to focus on engendering professional planning for improved policing in Nigeria.
