46 Worshippers Abducted From Zamfara Mosque

Forty-six persons have been abducted from a mosque by terrorists disguised as worshippers.

According to the Zamfara Police Command’s spokesman Mohammed Shehu, who announced the incident Friday, the worshippers were abducted from Jumu’at Central Mosque in Zugu town, Bukkuyum council area which is about 170 km from Gusau.

TheFact Daily gathers from eyewitnesses that the terrorists arrived the scene pretending to pray with the residents milling around the crowd unnoticed.

They are said to have hidden their weapons inside their dresses as they lined up to pray with other muslim faithfuls so as to penetrate unnoticed.

“They later fired freely into the air, forcing people to run for cover, before abducting the worshippers into the Savannah”, the eye witness said.

Shehu said that the State Police Command in collaboration with military and vigilantes have dispatched personnel for a search and rescue operation.

Security watchers speculate that this latest move by the bandits, may be a retaliatory action against the hounding of their hide outs in the Savannah by the Nigerian Air Force since last month, which led to the elimination of dozens of them.

It would be recalled too that Zamfara State residents were recently advised by the State governor, Bello Matawalle, to apply for permits for weapons to defend themselves against the terrorists who were tormenting them to very dangerous levels, and whose nefarious activities had turned some villages and towns to ghost arenas.

No ransom demands have yet been made by the terrorists as at the time of this report.
