National power grid collapses midnight *We’ve restored grid except… – TCN

The national electricity grid system collapsed on Wednesday morning at 1:21am leaving power generation to begin at 2,983 megawatts (MW) this morning.

However, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in a statement by its Public Affairs Head, Mrs Ndidi Mbah said confirmed the incident and said the National Control Centre (NCC) commenced immediate restoration of the grid which has been completed nationwide except  that of the Eastern axis which is ongoing.

She said: “TCN would commence investigations into the cause of the supply loss as soon as full recovery is achieved. We are committed to ensuring grid stability and consistent bulk power supply, especially at this time of the pandemic.”

As of Tuesday, TCN said the peak power generation was 4,641MW and the lowest power generation was 3,120MW.

Meanwhile TCN hourly report on Wednesday afternoon showed the level of restoration process the power grid was going through. The actual load available to the 11 DisCos was 1,720MW for supply to their customers.

Ibadan and Ikeja DisCos are competing at the top with 270MW allocation each, and Abuja DisCo has 250MW allocation according to sharing formula in the Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO).

EKo got 180MW and Benin got 150MW. The six other DisCos are left with 100MW each as the national grid restoration process continues.
