Action Alliance Obtains Release Of Ebonyi Party Chairman, To Sue IGP For Arrest

The Action Alliance has said that the Party is considering the option of challenging the illegal, unwarranted arrest of its Ebonyi State Chairman, Hon. Godwin Ukwu.

National Chairman of the Action Alliance, Chief. Barr. Kenneth Obidiche Udeze made this known in a chat with TheFact Nigeria on Tuesday.

TheFact Nigeria gathered that Hon. Ukwu was arrested on Tuesday morning by the Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly running a factional executive of the Party in Ebonyi.

This was in spite of his being recognised by the Chief Barr. Kenneth Udeze-led National Executive Committee of the Action Alliance was recently inaugurated at the Party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

A press statement signed by Rev. Dennis Ubani, the National publicity Secretary of Action Alliance said the Action Alliance urged the Acting Inspector General of police (IGP) to call the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police to order for interfering in internal affairs of the Action Alliance in the State.

It was also gathered at the time of filing this report that Hon. Ukwu had been unconditionally released after much pressure from the Action Alliance headquarters to the IG of Police.

The Party’s statement said: “The Action Alliance AA National headquarters Abuja recieved with shock the illegal arrest of our party’s state Chairman in Ebonyi state   Hon.Godwin Ukwu today by the Ebonyi state command of the Nigeria police force.

“We demand the unconditional release of our State Chairman Hon. Godwin Ukwu by the police. We also want the public to know that the Action Alliance Ebonyi state chapter chairman is Hon. Godwin Ukwu.

“We urge the Acting Inspector General of police (IGP) to call the Ebonyi state Commissioner of police to order for interfering in internal affairs of our Party Action Alliance in Ebonyi state.”

A source within the Party said that the Police was demanding the sum of N70, 000 to effect the release of the State Chairman.
