Appointment Of New IGP: Buhari Seeks Confidential Briefings

While speculations continue to filter in with regards to who, out of seven senior police officers comprising Deputy Inspector-Generals (DIGs) and Assistant Inspector-Generals (AIGs) succeeds IGP Mohammed Adamu, President Muhammadu Buhari has demanded for confidential briefings on the shortlisted seven to enable him make a decision.

IGP Mohammed Adamu is due for retirement today, Monday, February 1, 2021, having attained the mandatory 35 years of service.

TheFact Nigeria gathered from a credible security source, that Adamu’s fate was sealed on Wednesday after President Buhari was briefed on the vacancy in the police top post by Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), when the minister presented a shortlist of Deputy Inspector-Generals (DGIs) and Assistant Inspector-Generals (AIGs) to the president for his consideration.

However, the source disclosed that the presidency has since “directed the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Department of States Security (DSS) to prepare confidential briefings on seven senior police officers on the rank of DIG and AIG.

”In the event that no announcement of a new IGP is named before the end of Monday, the source continues, Adamu is expected to hand over to the most senior police officer.

“Course mates of IGP Adamu, serving in various positions in the Police Force, including a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), DIG Ibrahim Lamorde, DIG Michael Anthony Ogbizi, and AIG Mohammad Mustafa, have reportedly vacated their offices as of Sunday night in preparation for quitting the Force on Monday”, the source disclosed.
