BSU VC, Kembe Tests Positive For Coronavirus

The Vice Chancellor, Benue State University, Professor Msugh Kembe has announced that he has tested positive to the dreaded COVID-19 disease.

In his verified Facebook account, the Vice Chancellor said that the results of his test, came out on Monday and returned positive.

Recall that the authority of the University had on Tuesday fumigated the school which fueled insinuation that the VC and top management staff of the University had tested positive to coronavirus.

But in a statement signed by the institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar (Information & Public Relations), Mr. Tser Vanger, said the rumours were unfounded and hinged the fumigation of the school on re-opening of schools.

“On Monday, 29 June, the Federal Government came out with guidelines for possible re-opening of institutions of Learning, which did not include universities and other institutions of higher learning.

“It was the unveiling of these guidelines and their non-inclusion of universities that informed the decision of Management of Benue State University to issue another internal memo directing all staff on non-essential services to revert to the earlier directive of “work from home” or stay at home as dictated by the COVID-19 protocols.

But in his verified Facebook account, the VC called on staff of the University and close associates to check themselves, isolate and be pragmatic.

Professor Kembe said, “On Monday, 29th June, 2020, my test result for the COVID-19 returned positive.

“I had fever and body fatigue the previous week, I have been in isolation since I found out about my positive exposure to the virus.

“I am of course managing the virus now. I must at this point express my appreciation to the Executive Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and also the state taskforce on COVID-19 headed by the deputy governor, Benson Abounu for their timely support to ensure I get the required medical attention.

“Staff of Benue State University and close associates are urged to check themselves, isolate and be pragmatic. The virus don’t move, we move it. Take responsibility”, the statement read.
