Fuel Crisis: Consumer Commission To Investigate Oil Marketers

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is to commence investigation into the activities of oil marketers.

Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Mr. Babatunde Irukera disclosed this in an interactive session with Journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

TheFact Nigeria reports the FCCPC boss also said that the aim for meeting with the media was to have a conversation about the state of the market as viable partners.

Mr. Irukera said that the FCCPC had embarked on several interventions in diverse areas of the economy including health, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, shipping and the markets among others.

“A few weeks ago, we intervened in digital lending companies’, he said.

He said that the essence was to ensure that businesses operated in a manner that was not exploitative to the consumer.

The FCCPC boss explained that the Commission had no intention to get affected businesses grounded, but to ensure equity in the system.

On prosecution of offenders according to the law, Mr. Irukera said that the FCCPC was currently prosecuting defaulters in various states of the country including Oyo and the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT).

“We are working hard to make sure that there is fairness”, he said.
