The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has sought to collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on the deployment of forensic investigation to track criminal activities.

Head, NSCDC Forensic and Psychological Services, Mr Tersoo Shaapera, disclosed this when he led a group of the Corps’ Forensic Unit officers to the anti-graft Agency’s Headquarters Forensic Laboratory on Tuesday.

Shaapera said that the visit to the EFCC was imperative, being an advanced agency in crimes forensic study and analysis, adding that the partnership was necessary to foster capacity building of personnel and training on criminal cases management, among other areas of speciality.

He described the EFCC’s Forensic Laboratory as one of the best in Africa, and averred that the Corps would profit greatly from collaborating with the Commission, as “it will help us to reduce crime and also know if it is psychologically related”.

According to Shaapera, the Corps’ Commandant General, Mr Ahmed Audi, established the unit with a view to meeting the obligation of crime prevention and response, as well as “to protect the nation’s critical national assets and infrastructure from criminals alongside other reasons”, and that the Unit had been able to conduct psychological profiling, investigate motives behind crimes and adopted confidentiality of documents.

Responding, EFCC Forensic Department Director, Mr Benedict Agweye, who was represented by EFCC Forensics Head, Mr Gideon Dashong, said that the collaboration would help in curbing crimes, and added that the Commission would be happy to approve whatever the Corps may need in any area of speciality.

During the visit, the NSCDC delegates visited the EFCC fingerprint processing room, quality control and assurance room, digital lab, forensic document examination, fingerprint and crime scene, among others.
