EFCC Recovers Additional N1.4bn For NHIS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said, it has recovered another N1.4 billion for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The anti-graft Commission disclosed the recovery on Tuesday, 16 August, via its official Twitter handle, @officialEFCC.

According to the EFCC, the recovered funds were part of monies some commercial banks had ‘fraudulently’ refused to transfer to the Treasury Single Account (TSA) since 2015.

The funds have been made available to the NHIS since August 5, 2022.

It will be recalled that in July 2021, the Executive Secretary of the NHIS at the time, Nasir Sambo, disclosed that the Commission had recovered N5.4billion for the Scheme.

“In total, the EFCC has been able to recover about N5.4billion for us out of the N12.085b that has been trapped; this is a monumental achievement and that is why we will ensure that we remain good partners to the EFCC” Sambo had said.

In September 2021, the Commission also released N1.3bn said to have been recovered from the banks, to the NHIS.

Similarly, in February, 2022, EFCC released the sum of N1.5 billion to the Scheme.
