FG Pledges Timely, Effective Implementation Of Nigeria-UNIDO Country Program

Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Mariam Yalwaji Katagum has said that the Steering and Program Coordinating Committees of the Nigeria-United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) Country Program (CP) 2018 – 2022, would move fast in ensuring timely and effective implementation of the programs and projects, as enshrined in the Country Programme.

Amb. Katagum who is the Chairperson Steering and Program Coordinating Committees of the Nigeria-UNIDO Country Program (CP) 2018-2022 stated this during the inauguration of the Committees today in Abuja.

The Minister said: “We, as a Committee, will move fast, to ensure timely implementation of the programs and projects, as enshrined in the Country Programme. Let me at this point congratulate other members of the Steering and Program Coordinating Committees and assure them of my leadership and cooperation, in the effective implementation of the Nigeria UNIDO Country Programme 2018 – 2022”.

Amb. Katagum urged the Committee members to put in their very best to enable Nigeria derive maximum benefit from the programme, most especially in areas where there are competitive and comparative advantages, in line with the diversification agenda of the Federal Government.

Katagum said a lot of time  had been lost prior to the commencement of the Country Programme, but expressed confidence  that the desired results would be achieved within the stipulated period.

“The expectations of the Ministry in the implementation of the Country Program are enormous and understandable, especially in terms of technical cooperation, as well as enhancing industrial competitiveness, market access, innovation and investment promotion. In this regard, I want to urge UNIDO to come up with an action plan, for each of the thematic groupings, with respective assigned responsibilities,” she said.

While thanking the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo for the confidence reposed in the committee members, she maintained that they would bring their  wealth of experience and technical expertise to bear on the national assignment that was expected to positively impact on the present and future of Nigerian citizens.
