FG Sets January 2021 For Lagos/Ibadan Rail Line Completion

The Nigerian government has said it would complete the ongoing Lagos- Ibadan rail project by January 2021.

Recall that the critical rail project, has suffered several delays, owing to environmental and other challenges along the corridor, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, made the known during an inspection tour of the Apapa port to Ibadan Mega station.

He charged the contractors, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation(CCECC), to immediately return to site.

He said: “I inspected Abuja-Kaduna rail line, I did not die, I inspected Itakpe-Warri rail route, I did not die and now I am. here”.

The minister directed CCECC to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as a safety measures for it’s workers, as they resume operation.

“You should make available to your workers face mask and face shield to prevent them from touching their faces while working and hand sanitizer, let them return back to work, we must move forward.

“you have from now till January 1st, 2021 to deliver this project. By the time we come here again, we would like to see everything almost done on the stations”, he said.

Also speaking during the exercise, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, expression satisfaction with the level of work

“Please come and see for yourselves what we are doing with the money we borrowed. I am very excited because of the work done here”, he said.
