FG To Blame For National Security Failure, Says Monarch

The Emir of Zamfara, HRH, Dr. Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad

The Emir of Anka and Chairman, Zamfara State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, his royal highness Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad Anka, has said that the recent mass abduction of female students in Jangebe, Zamfara state, is a clear indication of national security failure.

The emir, who stated this when he led Emirs and Chiefs in the state on a sympathy visit to Governor Bello Matawalle, stressed that the national security failure is not limited to only Zamfara, but is manifest across all sections of the country.

Commenting on the tragedy that occurred in Zamfara female secondary school where over 300 female students were abducted in the complete absence of the military and the police, the emir said it is a most unfortunate scenario, considering that the federal government keeps assuring the citizens of its commitment to the protection of lives and properties of every Nigerian.

Alhaji Attahiru further stressed that the responsibility of securing lives and properties of Nigerian citizens rests squarely on the shoulders of the federal government, while states can only provide assistance when necessary. Therefore, accusing fingers, as far as the ugly incident is concerned, should be pointed at the federal government rather than the state governments.

The emir, on behalf of all the monarchs in the state, registered sentiments of deep sympathy to the governor and people of the state, and particularly the parents and wards of the abductees over the recent traumatizing incident.

In his response, Governor Bello Matawalle, while thanking the monarchs for the visit, said he is aware that there are some enemies of Zamfara state “who do not wish us well, but certainly God will never give them the chance to achieve this ungodly mission”, he said.

He said his government will remain steadfast and resolute on its responsibility of maintaining a secured citizenry mindless of individuals or groups engineering and sponsoring the carnage.

Meanwhile, a government spokesman has refuted a story carried by a number of reputable national dailies that the abducted female students of Jangebe secondary school have been released.

He however said that the government was doing everything humanly possible to secure immediate freedom for the captives.
