Health Expert Urges Nigerians To Report Unprofessional Conducts

Dr. Adebimpe Adebiyi

The outgoing Director, Hospital Services, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Adebimpe Adebiyi has urged Nigerians to report cases of unprofessional conduct from health practioners to the appropriate health bodies.

Adebiyi disclosed this on Thursday, October 13, 2022, while fielding questions from journalists at her send forth party in Abuja.

The Health Expert said it was pertinent that patients lodge complaints so that through the feedback, the country’s Healthcare delivery system would be sanitised:

“Nigerians need to know that we have regulatory bodies for all the health systematic areas and if they have any dissatisfaction in service delivery, they should report to the regulatory bodies, we have the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, we have the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, we have the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

“All the different professionals have regulatory bodies so Nigerians should utilise the services of these regulatory bodies if they have any issues concerning the practioner”.

She further stated that the strategy the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) was using was one which had the Patients’ interest at heart:

“The main strategy we are using is the national strategy for anaesthesia, surgical, nursing plan that is bringing all the practioners without segregation, everyone is going to work together so that we have the patient interest at heart.

“It is going to be patient centered service delivery. No more the practioners’ interest”, she added.

On Nigeria’s snail speed in crashing maternal mortality rate, Dr. Adebiyi said, “as far as the Federal Ministry of Health is concerned, our main work is to develop policies and we have carried out situation analysis and developed the strategies for ensuring patient safety and this will be implemented by all stakeholders, from the practioners themselves to the patients, everyone has a role to play, including the media that is going to help us disseminate the provisions of the policy”.

In addition, the veteran said, “reproductive health is very close to my heart, I am an advocate of family planning, I always say that, when you plan your family, you end poverty, and if you can carry that message forward, Nigerians would be kept out of poverty and we would match into prosperity”.
