Interior Holds 2021 National Conference On Statutory Marriage Administration

All is set for this year’s National Stakeholders Conference on the Administration and conduct of Statutory Marriage in Nigeria, organised by the Ministry of Interior.

According to a statement from the ministry, Thursday, 6 May, and signed by Akinbode Fatima, on behalf of the Director, Press, the purpose of the conference is to discuss strengths and weaknesses of the existing framework, and to recommend international best practices that would enhance its efficiency, acceptability and uniformity.

The statement further says that the Department of Citizenship and Business in the Ministry, under the watch of the Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is poised to strategize, redesign and enforce the laws, regulations and guidelines in relation to statutory marriage in Nigeria so as to build solid family units which form the bedrock of socio-economic development and stability of the nation, in line with the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration.

The Permanent Secretary who is the Principal Registrar of Marriages, enjoins all stakeholders to actively participate in the conference and to proffer recommendations.

“It is expected that the outcome of the conference would protect and strengthen marriages, while producing disciplined and successful children who are the leaders of tomorrow”, the statement reads.
