Kidnappers Of Anglican Bishop Bow To Police Pressure, Release Captives

Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese, Kwara State, Oluwaseun Aderogba and wife

Abducted Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese, Kwara State, Oluwaseun Aderogba, has been released alongside his wife and driver.

The bishop and the others were abducted by gunmen on Sunday night along the Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway.

The Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, who, in a statement, confirmed the release of the abductees Tuesday 14 June, said operatives of the Command safely rescued the victims around 6:20 pm same day.

TheFact Nigeria recalls that the clergyman, in the company of his wife and driver were abducted on Sunday, 12 June, at about 9pm, after the victim’s vehicle developed a mechanical fault while travelling from Yewa, Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State en route an isolated area along new Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.

“The abducted Bishop, Rt. Rev Aderogba Adeyinka of Jebba Anglican Diocese regained his freedom unhurt alongside his wife and driver around 1820hours today, Tuesday 14/06/2022″, Osifeso said.

According to him, the hoodlums were pressurised into freeing their captives due to the heat turned on them by the massive deployment of policemen in the area for search and rescue operations.

“The massive deployment of police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the police tactical teams pressurised the abductors in freeing the victims.

“Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice,” the statement said.

It would be recalled that the abductors, after kidnapping the victims, had made a ransom demand of N50m. However, Osifeso did not disclose whether ransom was paid.

The Diocese of Osun Anglican Communion, on its Twitter handle, @anglicanosun, also confirmed the news.

“Thank you, Jesus! Thanks to everyone who yielded to our call for prayer for Rt. Revd. Oluwaseun Aderogba and his wife. They are safe at last! May God heal our land. Amen,” the tweet said.

The abductees have already been reunited with their families.
