Money Laundering: Police Arrest Lawmaker With $498,000, Distribution List

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command, deployed to INEC Headquarters, Aba Road, have arrested a lawmaker on whose person was recovered the sum of 498,100 US dollars.

Rivers State Plice Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a press statement today, said Hon Chinyere Igwe, a member House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency, was arrested in the early hours of Friday.

According to her, Igwe was arrested around 2:45am by the operatives who were on a stop-and-search operation. He was found with the said cash sum inside a bag in his car, along with a list for distribution of the money.

The AIG Election, AIG Abutu Yaro, has ordered swift interrogation and arraignment in court, even as the Command urges all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.
