New NYSC DG Pledges To Restore Scheme’s Status

The new Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed has said he would not only sustain the high tempo with which the Scheme operates, but take it to greater heights.

Ahmed made the pledge on Monday, January 30, 2023, during the handing/taking over ceremony held in Abuja.

The DG, who appreciated President Buhari for the appointment, noted that he was taking over the administration of the NYSC at a very unique time in history as the Scheme would be 50 years old in few months to come.

He commended the Ag. Director-General, current and past Management of the NYSC for all the successes recorded by the Scheme in its years of existence, despite the numerous challenges in the operating environment.

The 20th Director General of NYSC assured that he would not only sustain the high tempo but “collectively, we will take the Scheme to greater heights”.

He said his administration would be open and pay special attention to strategies that would bring the desired improvement in the general operations of the Scheme.

The new DG stated that his administration’s policy thrust would focus on improving security and welfare of corps members, providing enabling environment for research and development for the advancement of the scheme, among others:

“This administration will be open and pay special attention to strategies that will bring the desired improvement in the general operations of the Scheme. In this regard, the Policy Thrust that will drive the administration will focus on
Improving security, welfare of Corps members and Staff to engender optimal service delivery to the nation;

“Providing enabling environment for Research and Development for the advancement of the Scheme;
Strengthening stakeholders’ engagement for the promotion of the frontiers of the Scheme;

“Enhancement of capacity building to stimulate efficiency and higher corporate performance; and Deepening the impact of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

“I therefore solicit for the cooperation of all members of Staff and our stakeholders to enable us move the Scheme to higher level of achievements”, he said.

In her address, the Acting Director-General of the Scheme, Mrs. Christy Ifeyinwa Uba said she enjoyed immense support of the National Governing Board, the Management team, members of Staff and other critical stakeholders during her period of stewardship.

To the new DG, she said, “I am confident that the experience gained in your previous assignment here, and the cordial relationship already established with members of Staff, will facilitate your success as you steer the affairs of this noble organization”.

Following the removal of the 19th Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah by President Muhammadu Buhari, Mrs Christy Uba, Director, Information and Communications Technology, the most senior Director in the Scheme took over the leadership of the Corps in the capacity of Overseer, pending the appointment of a substantive Director General by Mr. President.
