NGO Offers Free Eye Screening For Students In FCT

65 students and five teachers of Junior Secondary School, Area 11, Garki Abuja on Thursday received free eye medical screening organised by a Non Governmental Organization, ‘LeaderJoe 1808 Foundation.’

The Chairman of the Foundation, Mr Leader Onus, said that children needed good sight to perform well in school.

“Some students do not perform well in class not because they are not intelligent, but because they have poor eye sight and they cannot understand what is written on the board.

“All they need is treatment to help them understand what they are thought,” he said.

Onus said that it was the foundation plan to always do medical outreach.

“The first phase is screening and the second phase is treatment, but we will need to seek the parents permission before the treatment can start.”

Onus said that the foundation was glad to put smiles on faced of the children and they are open to more support.

Onus said that the free screening by the foundation was organised in collaboration with Alpha zone Eye Clinic.

He said the organization got approval from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to access the school as a law abiding citizen.

One of the teachers, Miss Wemere Chinwendu, said that the outreach was important adding that a lot of the pulpil needs the treatment.

Chiwendu also encouraged the foundation to sustain the gesture, urging other NGOs to emulate the gesture do more in the area of humanitarian work.

Yusuf Yusuf, a student of the school said that the eye screening was important to them, and was happy to have been selected.
