No Effective Rule Of Law Without Judicial Financial Autonomy -Okowa

The Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has said that the rule of law in Nigeria cannot be effective without the financial autonomy of the judiciary.

Governor Okowa stated this while delivering his keynote address in Asaba at the Annual Conference of the Nigeria Bar Association’s Section on Legal Practice (NBA SLP), which had the theme “Legal Practice in Nigeria: Our Reality, Our Future.”

“There can be no rule of law without the guarantee of the independence of the judiciary in the interest of the administration of justice.

“This includes giving them the substantial resources that they need to fully perform their judicial duties,” Governor Okowa said.

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming 2023 general election said, the protection of the independence of judges and courts would allow them to effectively consider cases without prejudice.

“Protecting the independence of judges and courts in the interest of the equitable administration of justice allows them to effectively consider cases without prejudice.

“This is why, earlier today, at the Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Legal Practice, I emphasized that our legal system must ensure that citizens have access to justice, and our courts must also be able to resolve disputes expeditiously”, he said.
