Ondo 2020: Akeredolu Slams Makinde Over Remarks On Ruturning Officer

The Executive Governor of Ondo State, and All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for Ondo gubernatorial election Rotimi Akeredolu has debunked and described the claim that INEC has appointed the Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede as its returning officer as not just false but misleading.

This claim was made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde.

In a statement released by the campaign spokesperson, Richard Olabode Olatunde, Akeredolu wondered where Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo got the news from.

However, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has stated that this is not true since its against the procedures for INEC to appoint an Ondo indigene as a returning officer for the Saturday polls.

The governor of Ondo, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has there slammed the PDP for raising fears over the alleged appointment of the vice-chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) as the returning officer for the election.

Akeredolu therefore stated that “it is a false alarm as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has never at any time chosen Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede as its chief returning officer.”

The Ondo governor however sent words to Governor Makinde as a member of the Nigerian council of state to note that INEC cannot appoint any indigene from the state a returning officer for the election.
