Perm Sec Solicits Improved Synergy Between MOD, AFN

The newly appointed Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence (MOD), Mr Babangida Hussaini has solicited for improved synergy between Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) towards improved coordination in the areas of policy formation and implementation.

Mr. Hussaini, who was on a familiarization visit to Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Abuja, solicited for effective working relationship, maintaining that a robust synergy between the AFN and its supervising Ministry will ginger the MOD to succeed in its assigned roles and administration.

“I am here to affirm our commitment to the officers and men of the Armed Forces that the MOD would ensure that the right policy environment is created for the operational success of the military”, he stated.

Mr Hussaini identified robust civil-military cooperation and proper communication as factors that will enhance effective service delivery.

The Permanent Secretary commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) for coordinating the policy initiatives of driving the operational activities of the military to while urging the civil populace to support troops in various theatres of operation in the discharge of their statutory responsibility as they defend the nation against crimes and criminalities as well as against terrorism and insurgency.

He assured the CDS that his deployment to MOD would further facilitate dissemination of correct and timely information on the activities of the ministry, and re-emphasized that the MOD will not relent in the provision of essential logistics support for DHQ and all its operations.

Earlier in his welcome address the CDS, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, congratulated the Permanent Secretary on his new appointment which he described as well deserved and a testament of his dedication to service to the nation.

He said that the maiden visit of the Permanent Secretary would afford the guest first hand information on the roles and operations of DHQ and the AFN.

Gen. Olonisakin promised to provide the Permanent Secretary with all necessary assistance and support required of the DHQ to the MOD. He also used the occasion to propose for a single headquarters complex that will house both the DHQ and MOD in order to promote effective synergy and more productivity, among other benefits.

The Permanent Secretary, who was accompanied by Directors from MOD, was briefed on the structures, roles and various military operations under direct supervision of DHQ in various parts of the country.
