Police In Ogun Rescue Kidnapped Journalist

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued a journalist who was kidnapped by gunmen in Ijebu Ode last week.

The Ogun State Pice Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed this via Twitter on Monday.

Oduneye Olusegun, was kidnapped on his way back from Abeokuta, at Mobalufon area, Ijebu Ode, at about 7:50pm on Thursday, 9th of March 2023. The following morning, his abductors put a call across to his wife using his phone, and demanded for N30million as ransome.

In compliance with the Police Chief in the State, CP Frank Mba’s directive to ensure the safe rescue of the victim, the DPO, Obalende divisional headquarters, SP Murphy Salami, in whose jurisdiction the incident happened, mobilized his detectives and embarked on technical and intelligence based investigation of the incident.

Their efforts paid off when the victim’s vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was traced to Idimu area of Lagos, where the kidnappers were hibernating and waiting for the ransome.

On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in a shootout which lasted for about 45 minutes before they abandoned the car and their victim, and took to their heels, having sustained varying degrees of injuries. The victim was rescued unhurt.

Meanwhile, CP Frank Mba, while commending his men for thier gallantry and thier professional conduct, has appealed to members of the public, especially the hospitals and traditional healers to report to the police if anybody with gunshot injuries is seen in their area.

He also sent a strong warning to criminals to stay clear from Ogun State, as the Command was battle ready to take the fight to thier door steps.
