Police To Begin Prosecution Of Unlawful Assaults On Personnel

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has warned that any individual or group that engages in assault on police officers will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this Monday in a press release.

The Police Chief, who spoke in condemnation of the recent trend of assaults on police officers and men in uniform in various locations across the country, emphasized that as agents of the State, attacks on police officers are not only Illegal, but an affront on the rule of law.

He warned that attacks on police officers and men in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise, as the Force holds the lives of its personnel sacrosanct.

Consequently, the IGP directed all Police Commands and Formations to ensure that culprits are made to face the law via swift prosecution in courts of competent jurisdiction.

While reiterating the commitment of the Force to ensuring protection of lives and property, the IGP stressed the importance of according respect to the fundamental rights of Police officers and other security operatives, in order to enable them advance their sacred mandate of serving and protecting the citizens better and maintenance of law and order.
