Senate Okays Confirmation Of Ex- Service Chiefs, Others As Ambassadors-Designate

Ex-service Chiefs

The Nigerian Senate has given its nod to the confirmation of former Service Chiefs as non-Career ambassadors.

They include: former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin; former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas; former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadique and former Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major Gen. Mohammed Usman.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had, on February 4, 2021, sent their names to the Senate for confirmation as non-career ambassadors after their retirement as heads of Nigerian Military in January was approved.

TheFact Nigeria notes that President Muhammadu Buhari had lauded the performance of the Service Chiefs, saying they had “overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to our dear country,” a stance many critics disapproved of, and rather called for their trial in the light of alleged war crimes, massacres, and gross human rights violations perpetrated by the former military chiefs.
