Sit-At-Home Order Will Badly Affect SouthEast Economy, Governor Umahi Warns

Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi.

Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi has warned that if the present sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) does not change, the economy of the Southeast would be badly affected.

Governor Umahi gave the warning on Monday while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

TheFact Nigeria reports that the pro-Biafra group had earlier announced that every Monday, the entire Southeast and some parts of Southsouth would be on a lockdown, as part of measures to force the Federal Government to release Kanu unconditionally.

However the governor said that the leaders of the zone in collaboration with Ohaneze Ndigbo are working together on the grievances of the youths of the area in order to take it to the President.

This is as the governor has told those holding federal positions from the zone to always visit their states and identify with their people in a bid to know the level of marginalization of the area.

The governor commended President Buhari on what he described as “megaprojects” in the area especially the Second Niger Bridge which he said is becoming a reality, the award of the eastern corridor of the railway line which he said would fast track commercial activities in the area.

While commenting on the 2023 presidential election, Umahi said it was “too early and distracting to talk about it”.

He said: “My position is that our people that are in those political parties are making the efforts in selling the need for south-east to produce the next president.

“But I think both the governors and Mr. President should not be distracted.”

He said that his prayer was that God will give Nigeria a President with a kind heart in 2023.
