Tackling Insecurity: DHQ Reorganizes Operations, Urges Stakeholders’ Support

The Defence Headquarters DHQ has said that the operations of the Armed Forces are being reorganised to effectively tackle security challenges in the country.

This was disclosed by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, on Thursday, in Abuja, while giving an update on the operations of the Armed Forces across the country.

TheFact Nigeria noted Enenche’s assurances that with the appointment of the new service chiefs, new modus operandi for tackling security challenges in the country would be ushered in.

The new approach, Enenche disclosed further, would include “carrying out strategic, administrative, operational and logistics adjustments, changes and reviews to improve the security situation in the country”.

Enenche further intimated on the sustained onslaught against Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the North East by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, saying that the troops had in various encounters, destroyed more terrorists’ enclaves along with their logistics facilities and eliminated scores of fighters through ground and air strikes.

The coordinator also disclosed that troops had sustained the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the North-West and North Central through series of land and air operations, and have also conducted several clearance and ambush operations as well as aggressive ground and aerial patrols in order to ensure security of lives and property within the period.

“Several combined land and air operations were conducted within the period, which resulted in the neutralization of scores of armed bandits and recovery of caches of arms and ammunition” he said, noting that, as the land troops maintain aggressive fighting patrols to dominate the theatre of operation, the air component dominated the airspace with air reconnaissance activities.

With regards to activities in the South-south zone, Gen. Enenche disclosed that troops of Operation Delta Safe conducted anti-crude oil theft and anti-illegal bunkering operations as well as other anti-illegal maritime activities, and in the process, deactivated several illegal refining sites within the period in focus.

In the course of the operations, he further revealed, large quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined AGO as well as some equipment, were recovered.

Enenche also revealed that in the South West Zone, troops have sustained their efforts in the fight against pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft as well as other forms of economic sabotage through raids and arrests within the period.

In view of these, he therefore appealed to Nigerians for support in tackling security challenges confronting the nation.

“Our collective efforts are essential in the fight against the various security vices in the country”,

“The Military High Command reassures the general public of its untiring dedication towards securing the country.

“Members of the general public are enjoined to continue providing timely information on the activities of criminals in their various localities to the military and other security agencies for prompt and effective action” he reiterated.
