Two Soldiers Killed, Others Injured In Katsina Terrorist Ambush

Two soldiers have been reportedly killed while four others sustained injuries after a gang of terrorists ambushed troops from the 32 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Katsina.

According to residents of Shimfida, where the attack took place, Wednesday, several terrorists were killed in the ensuing gun duel following the ambush. A lieutenant is also reportedly missing after the ambush.

TheFact Daily gathers that an indigene of Shimfida, identified as Nasir Mustapha, who lives in neighbouring Jibia town, said a military Armoured Personal Carrier (APC), was escorting a group of local business people to Gurbi village when it stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the terrorists. As soon as the device exploded, the bandits began firing at the soldiers, who overpowered the hoodlums due to their larger number.

Mustapha said that soldiers often escort residents of Shimfida to and fro the area due to increasing attacks on travellers.

Many of the residents of the area, he said, have fled to the relatively safe Jibia town.

It was gathered that the corpses and the wounded soldiers were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina.

Military and State authorities are yet to respond to SMS and calls requesting comments on the attack.
