Varsity Don Arrested, Quizzed By EFCC Over N260m Contract Scam

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Gusau, Professor Magaji Garba has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) over his involvement in acts bordering on abuse of office, corrupt practices and contract scam.

Professor Garba, on Thursday, 28 January, honoured an invitation from the anti-graft agency for questioning after which he was detained.

TheFact Nigeria gathered from a competent source at the Commission that Professor Garba had, sometime in 2018, fraudulently obtained the sum of Two Hundred and Sixty Million Naira (N260, 000,000) from a contractor, Alhaji Shehu Sambo, who owns Ministaco Nigeria Limited, on the pretext that the University was going to award his company a contract worth N3bn for the construction of perimeter Wall Fence around the institution. The contract never came to fruition.

The Vice Chancellor is still being quizzed by the EFCC, with a view to finding out what became of the money in question.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest. However, he did not give further details.
