No fewer than One Million, Three Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Three Hundred and Ninety-One (1,376,391) candidates registered for the on-going 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
This is according to a statement issued by NECO Spokesperson, Azeez Sani on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
Sani informed that the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi disclosed the information on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 after monitoring the examination at some centres in Enugu, Enugu State.
Prof. Wushishi who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination in the centre, disclosed that reports received from across the nation indicated that the examination was going on smoothly.
He attributed this success to the various measures put in place to ensure a seamless exercise.
He also informed that the menace of examination malpractice was on the decline due to some innovations put in place by the Council.
The Registrar admonished candidates to work hard in order to have a good grade in the examination, stressing that, “there is no short cut to success”.
He disclosed that since the commencement of the examination, he had monitored the exercise in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo and Anambra States to have first hand Information on the conduct of the examination.
According to him, in all the states visited, the critical stakeholders applauded NECO for the various measures put in place, which helped in making the conduct of 2024 SSCE seamless.
The Registrar disclosed that the examination was also being held in Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Cote d’ Ivoire and the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia.
Prof. Wushishi explained that the extension of NECO examinations to other countries indicates the wide acceptance of NECO Certificates across the world.
The 2024 NECO SSCE commenced on 19th June and will end on 25th July, 2024. Candidates are expected to sit for the examination in 76 subjects.
