The Nigerian Army (NA) has approved a list of hotlines to monitor and report any suspicious act of violence capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, who disclosed this in a statement Tuesady, said the initiative is aimed at effectively providing support to civil authorities and working in synergy with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to ensure protection of lives and property during the polls.
TheFact Daily gathers that in addition to supporting the lead security agency in ensuring the successful conduct of free, fair and peaceful elections, the numbers would also help in monitoring the conduct of troops deployed to provide security during the exercise.
It could be recalled that the NA had earlier produced and circulated Codes of Conduct and Rules of Engagement for Operation Safe Conduct to formations and Units to provide guidance and ensure that troops operate within the provisions of the codes and rules.
