The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has established a 7-member committee to address bullying incidents in all Nigeria schools, reinforcing its commitment to student welfare and a safe learning environment.
Director, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Boriowo Folasade announced the development in a statement on Tuesday.
TheFact Daily gathered that various studies put bullying in Nigerian schools between 70 per cent and as high as 85 per cent, spurring the call for comprehensive anti-bullying policies to address the issue directly.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, emphasized the urgent need for effective interventions, citing the psychological impact of bullying on students.
The committee will review reported cases and ensure swift action, complementing the 21-member team working on a National Policy on Anti-Bullying.
To facilitate confidential reporting, the Ministry has introduced: Hotline: 09012660044, Email: antibullying@education.gov.ng, WhatsApp: 08052536133
Dr. Alausa reiterated the Ministry’s zero-tolerance stance on bullying, urging school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to support this initiative.
This aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, prioritizing education as a driver of national development.
