The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi has charged the financial managers of federal government projects in the country, to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of funds entrusted to them.
Ogunjimi gave the charge at the Federal Projects Financial Management Department’s (FPFMD) Retreat for the year 2025, held on Thursday in Abuja.
The retreat was organized by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) for the Finance Managers to interact and learn of new reforms/developments in the Nigeria Public Finance ecosystem, as part of OAGF’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the Financial Management of Federal Projects in the Federation.
“You must realize that you have been entrusted with not just Public Funds, but Borrowed Funds which must be repaid in time, either in ours or that of our children.
“It is a privilege that you have been chosen among the many Treasury Officers in the country to safeguard the future of this great nation as the first gate keepers of critical Public funds as represented by the over forty (40) Donor Funded Projects,” he said.
The AGF assured them of federal government’s support in the execution of their mandate in contributing their quota towards achieving various Projects Development Objectives (PDOs).
According to him, the retreat was a crucial platform for reflection, collaboration and strategic planning in addressing some critical aspects of Federal Projects Financial Management.
“We shall explore innovative solutions and share best practices aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in the financial management of Federal Projects,” he said.
Ogunjimi reiterated that in this era of increasing complexity and scrutiny in public finance, there was the need to uphold the highest standards of integrity in the management of public funds and to ensure that Projects deliver value to the citizens.
