In the early hours of today, 12 September 2025, celebrity Chef, Hilda Baci, commenced her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice at Eko Hotels & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Baci, already a Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual (100 hours in 2023), arrived early to oversee the setup of her massive 6-meter wide cooking pot, which was transported to the site at 4 a.m.
The pot was made clean after Baci personally washed it. It was designed to accommodate 250 bags of rice, enough to serve thousands along with some spices, vegetables, and proteins to create what she promises will be the “best Nigerian jollof” ever made.
Guinness World Records has officially recognized the attempt, extending best wishes to Baci and her team.
Sponsored by seasoning brand Gino, the cooking fiesta emphasizes unity and cultural heritage, with Baci stating, “Jollof represents who we are, our culture, our togetherness, and our shared pride. With Gino, I am excited to make history.”
Attendees, many of whom traveled from across Nigeria and beyond, are being treated to complimentary meals, live performances, and a festive atmosphere, with social media talking about the vibe at Eko Hotel.
Eyewitness accounts from the scene painted a picture of crowd chanting in support, families picnicking, and even a prayer led by Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Centre before the cooking began.

Videos circulating online showed the pot being ignited amid cheers, with Baci directing a team of assistants in a choreographed dance of preparation. One attendee remarked on social media, “What a view at Eko Hotel! The crowds are outside cheering on our star Hilda Baci, Africa’s best chef! Love this energy.”
However, not all moments were seamless, as a viral clip captured popular streamer, Peller being briefly confronted by security, and some attendees standing some hours because there weren’t enough chairs, highlighting the challenges of managing such a massive gathering.
As the aroma of the jollof wafts through the air, Baci’s endeavor made Nigeria’s growing global footprint. If successful, this feat could surpass previous records for the largest single pot of rice, feeding thousands and symbolizing resilience and flavor in a pot.
The cooking process took some hours. For those not in attendance, the event’s highlights are being shared live on social media, ensuring the jollof spirit reaches far beyond Lagos.
Stay tuned for official confirmation from Guinness World Records, but one thing is clear, Hilda Baci is serving up more than just rice today; she’s dishing out inspiration on a world record scale.
