COWA revealed on Wednesday that the campaign is scheduled to hold from 7am to 8am across multiple locations in Nigeria on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

It added that the initiative, under its Green Borders sustainability drive, underscores the group’s commitment to environmental protection and grassroots community action.

Designed as a coordinated national exercise, the campaign will mobilise volunteers, community members, and environmental advocates to plant trees simultaneously across several states. Beyond meeting the ambitious one-hour target, the effort seeks to rally collective action against deforestation, climate change, and land degradation.

Framed as both symbolic and impactful, the “1,000 Trees in One Hour” initiative reflects COWA’s growing focus on advocacy-driven sustainability programmes. It combines public awareness with measurable environmental impact, encouraging communities to take ownership of ecological responsibility.

National President of COWA, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, described the campaign as a practical call to action. She emphasised that the exercise goes beyond planting trees, aiming instead to inspire a culture of environmental stewardship and long-term responsibility among citizens.

According to her, the initiative aligns with COWA’s broader vision of linking environmental sustainability with community development. She noted that while the trees will contribute to ecosystem restoration, the awareness generated will help nurture environmentally conscious citizens, particularly among younger generations.

COWA says the campaign is intended to grow into a sustained nationwide movement, fostering partnerships and deeper public engagement in environmental advocacy. With this initiative, the association reinforces the role of citizens—especially women and youth—as key drivers in safeguarding Nigeria’s environmental future.
