Following the killings of 5 military personnel at the Obikabia checkpoint in Aba, Abia state, troops have discovered and destroyed several IPOB/ESN terrorists camps across the region.
Disclosing this on Thursday at a press briefing in Abuja, the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, said the intelligence based operations were conducted at such places as Igboro Forest in Arochukwu LGA of Abia state among others.
TheFact Daily recalls that the military high command had, on 31 May, vowed to “bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat”.
According to him, the operations also led to the arrest of persons found to be culpable in the May 30 incident.
He said there were gains to the raids and arrests in terms of intelligence value as “those in detention are assisting troops to locate other camps, sleeper cells and high profile individuals involved in the activities of the terrorists group”.
