
The Super Eagles of Nigeria has kicked off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament with a 2-1 victory over the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a Group C clash at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, Morocco.
Super Eagles are eager to bounce back from missing the 2026 World Cup and their runners-up AFCON finish in 2023.
Semi Ajayi opened the score in the first half with a header from a corner, rising highest to nod past Tanzania goalkeeper Zuberi Masudi, to give Nigeria a lead.
Charles M’Mombwa equalized for Tanzania in the 52nd minute, bringing the scores to 1-1.
However, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, gave Nigeria the lead again with a strike into the top corner of Tanzania’s net.
He’s goal sealed three points for Nigeria.
The win puts Nigeria on top of Group C, ahead of their next match against Tunisia on December 27.
