
The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday defeated Algerian National team 2:0 in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Marrakesh, Morocco to set up a semifinal clash with the host.
After a goalless first half, Nigeria came stronger in the second half, with Victor Osimhen open scoring in the 47th minute after a perfect cross from Bruno Onyemaechi.
The Super Eagles doubled their lead in the 57th minute through Akor Adams, who received an assist from Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen provided the assist for Akor Adams who dribbled past goalkeeper Luca Zidane, who watched him tap the ball into an empty net.
The victory marks a bounce back for Nigeria after their disappointing failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team will now face host Morocco in the semifinal on Wednesday, January 14, in Rabat, Morocco.
