The incumbent Governor of Ondo State, and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been elected as the Executive Governor of Ondo State.
This is after defeating his closest rivals, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olorunfemi Ayodele of Labour Party (LP) in the governorship election conducted on Saturday, September 16, 2024.
He was declared winner by the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi.
He said, Aiyedatiwa polled a total of 366,781 votes to defeat Ajayi and Ayodele who polled 117, 845 and 1,163 votes respectively.
He announced: Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected.”
Aiyedatiwa is a businessman and politician who served as governor of Ondo State since 2023.
He previously served as deputy governor of Ondo State from 2021 to 2023 under late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
He is a former Commissioner of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
