Akume, Sanwo-Olu, Zulum, Others To Grace Environmental Society National Conference

The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), has scheduled this year’s Annual National Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the centre of excellence “EKO 2024.”

National President of the society, Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia, made this known yesterday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the 33rd National Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to hold from 30th October to 1st November in Lagos State.

Dr. Okobia informed that the 33rd National Conference was to examine global environmental challenges and mitigate actions to ensuring a sustainable environment and economic growth for Nigeria.

He said the Conference and AGM would discuss and proffer scientific and practical solutions to global, national, subnational and local environmental challenges.

He disclosed that the theme for the conference is, “Environmental Resource Management, Conservation and Protection in the Global emerging innovative technology for sustainable development”.

He said that apart from the main theme of the conference there were other subs-themes that would be discussed to examine significant issues at the Technical Sessions with cut-crossing environmental sustainability challenges.

The President disclosed that the conference theme aims at examining realities, alignments, and contradictions in the global action to limit environmental degradation and its implications for sustainable development in the global South.

He said the keynote speaker at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is Former Vice Chancellor Lagos State University,
Prof. Olarewaju Fagbohun, Chief Host is the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He listed dignitaries at the forthcoming conference to include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas, Eleko of Eko, Rilwan Akiolu, the European Union (EU) Nigeria Representative, Louis Blondiau, Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Niger State,
Mohammed Bago, Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum among others.

NES is committed to advocacy and actions towards environmental protection, sustainable development, and the promotion of environmental professionalism within Nigeria and in the global arena.

The Society is the biggest environmental society in Sub-Saharan Africa and recognised internationally with over 30 chapters in the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.
