Army, Tantita Collaborate To Protect Oil Infrastructure In N/Delta

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Ejim-Emekah, has pledged renewed collaboration between the Army and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) to further strengthen security infrastructure in the Niger Delta and boost Nigeria’s crude oil production.

The GOC made the remarks on Wednesday at Effurun Barracks, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, during the commissioning of the reconstructed and furnished Headquarters, Sector 1, Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, as well as the 3 Battalion Headquarters, projects sponsored by TSSNL.
Ejim-Emekah said that sustained cooperation among the Nigerian Army, TSSNL and other security partners has contributed to steady improvements in crude oil output, noting that partnerships with credible private-sector operators have enhanced the capacity of troops to tackle oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage.

The newly commissioned facilities include 13 newly constructed offices at the 3 Battalion Headquarters and the remodelling of 22 offices within the Sector 1 complex.

According to the GOC, who also serves as Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South, improved protection of critical national assets—particularly oil and gas infrastructure—has been a key driver of the gradual rise in crude oil production.

“Tantita is doing a lot in support of 6 Division. They are not only active in Delta State but are also extending their interventions to Rivers and Bayelsa States. Recently, without being compelled, they undertook another major project for us in Port Harcourt,” he said.

Ejim-Emekah recalled that upon assuming office on January 24 last year, he expressed dissatisfaction with the state of some military facilities in Warri, describing them as unbefitting for an operational infantry battalion. He noted that the transformation of the facilities reflects the positive impact of leadership and partnership.

“These facilities will significantly enhance command and control and ease administration. This commissioning reflects purposeful leadership and value addition by the sector commander,” he added.

The project was conceptualised by the Commander, 63 Brigade and Sector 1 JTF OPDS, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, and executed as part of Tantita’s corporate social responsibility.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Kestin Pondi, said sustainable security is driven by strong collaboration between public and private institutions, a principle he said underpins Tantita’s operations.

Since its engagement by NNPC Limited in August 2022, Pondi noted, Tantita has worked closely with government security agencies—especially the Nigerian Army—to combat oil theft and related economic crimes.

He added that the project, which commenced in August 2025, was completed in record time and represents an investment in people, capacity and operational readiness. Pondi also appreciated the Office of the National Security Adviser, NNPCL, the Nigerian Army, sister security agencies, host communities and Tantita staff for their support.

The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, representatives of other security agencies, community leaders and stakeholders, highlighting the growing role of private-sector participation in enhancing national security and boosting Nigeria’s oil production.
