The latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that the average retail price of refilling cooking gas has decreased in August 2025.
According to the report released by the Bureau on Thursday, average retail price for refilling a 5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) decreased by 22.32% on a month-on-month basis from ₦8,243.79 recorded in July 2025 to ₦6,404.02 in August 2025.
The National Data agency also revealed that on a year-on-year basis, this decreased by 0.40% from ₦6,430.02 in August 2024.
It said on state profile analysis, Katsina recorded the highest average price for refilling a 5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) with ₦6,945.21, followed by Taraba with ₦6,893.12 and Rivers with ₦6,886.49. While Delta recorded the lowest price with ₦5,657.50, followed by Bauchi and Borno with ₦5,721.75 and ₦6,070.56 respectively.
NBS analysis by zone showed that the North-West recorded the highest average retail price for refilling a 5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) with ₦6,473.63, followed by the North-East with ₦6,465.63 while the South-South recorded the lowest with ₦6,331.29.
Also, the average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) decreased by 21.42% on a month-on-month basis from ₦20,609.48 in July 2025 to ₦16,195.07 in August 2025. On a year-on-year
basis, this rose by 4.13% from ₦15,552.56 in August 2024.
On state profile analysis, according to the report, Yobe recorded the highest average retail price for the refilling of a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) with ₦16,887.42 followed by Adamawa with ₦16,872.40 and Ebonyi with ₦16,859.17. Conversely, the lowest average price was recorded in Benue with ₦15,102.50, followed by Borno and Imo with ₦15,176.39 and ₦15,177.58 respectively.
Analysis by zone showed that the North-West recorded the highest average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) with ₦16,358.15, followed by the South-East with ₦16,344.61 while the SouthWest recorded the lowest price with ₦15,865.17.
