Benue Governor Lifts Suspensions On Otukpo LG Chair, Two Others

The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has lifted the suspensions placed on three public officers in the State, following the decision of the Benue State House of Assembly.

Governor Alia had on the 20th August, 2025 upheld the resolution of the house to suspend the following persons; 1. Mr. Maxwell Ogiri – Executive Chairman, Otukpo Local Government Area. 2. Mrs. Grace Adagba – Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). 3. Mr. Michael Uper – Executive Secretary, Benue State Lottery Commission.

However, during plenary on the 25th August 2025, the House under the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga passed another resolution lifting the suspension.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, in a statement on Monday disclosed that in compliance with the resolutions of the House, the Governor directed the immediate reinstatement of the affected officials.

He said Governor Alia reaffirmed his respect for the constitutional roles of the legislature and reiterates his administration’s resolve to continue working harmoniously with all arms of government in the collective pursuit of peace, progress, and good governance in Benue State.

Alia charged the reinstated officers to rededicate themselves to their duties, uphold the highest standards of accountability, and work diligently in the interest of the people.

He appreciated the understanding and support of the people of Benue State and assured them of his continued commitment to building a transparent, responsive, and people-centered administration.
