CBCN Felicitates Muslims On El-el-Fitr, Urges Unity Amid National Challenges

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has felicitated the muslims across the country on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, calling for deeper unity and collective commitment to national renewal.
This was contained in a goodwill message signed on Friday by its President, Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso.
CBCN congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan, describing their devotion to fasting, prayer, and almsgiving as a powerful example of faith and self-discipline.
The bishops noted that this year’s observance holds special significance, as both Christians and Muslims commenced their fasting seasons on the same day, a development they described as a “providential convergence” that underscores shared spiritual values.
According to the CBCN, the alignment serves as a reminder of the common pursuit of peace, sacrifice, and reliance on God among adherents of both faiths, especially at a time when Nigeria is grappling with insecurity, economic hardship, and social divisions.
The conference urged Nigerians to move beyond mere coexistence and embrace genuine brotherhood, stressing the need for collaboration in building a nation anchored on justice, truth, and mutual respect.
“At a time when our nation faces serious challenges, it calls us to live as brothers and sisters, working side by side to build a nation founded on justice, truth, and mutual respect,” the statement read.
The bishops also called for reflection on enduring values such as sacrifice, forgiveness, solidarity with the poor, and reverence for God as pathways to national healing and renewal.
While joining Muslims in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr, the CBCN prayed for lasting peace and unity in Nigeria, urging leaders to remain committed to righteousness and the service of the common good.
“May this celebration bring joy, serenity, and divine favour to your families, and may God bless our nation with unity and guide our leaders,” the statement added.
