COPEHRA Applauds FG’s Approval Of N758Bn To Settle Pension Liabilities

By Sunday Etuka, Abuja

The Contributory Pension and Happy Retirement Advocacy (COPEHRA) has commended the Federal Government for approving a N758 billion bond to settle long standing pension liabilities.

This is even as it congratulated the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms Omolola Oloworaran, her management staff, and President Bola Tinubu for giving a boost to the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), its pensioners and retirees.

Recall that the amount was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 to clear 16 years pension arrears.

COPHEHRA, in a statement by its Senior Technical Advisor, Sani Ibrahim Mustapha, expressed delight that the action has freed the CPS retirees from the shackles of waiting for Accrued rights that has been bedeviling the CPS since inception.

It added that by taking the historic action, the current federal government has shown compassion and resolve to help Nigeria’s pensioners and new retirees.

“We at COPEHRA (Regd 2014) have always believed that sustainable fraud-free pension starts with the CPS. We also noted that the approval covers the Pension Protection Fund, all outstanding pension increases since 2007, and the shortfall for Professors full salary monthly pension,” the group said in the statement.

It therefore called on all those agitating against the CPS to sheath their sword and await the smiles and good news from existing pensioners and new retirees.
